Newburgh Alternative Medicine Can Counteract Backpack Stress on Kids

September means one thing for parents and children across America: returning to school. Kids walking along streets wearing backpacks will quickly become a normal sight in and out of classrooms. However, several studies have determined that prolonged carrying of heavy weights can have a detrimental effect on the long-term health and well-being of children. An article from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association said that:

Wearing a backpack on one shoulder may cause a child to lean to one side in order to compensate for the extra weight. The middle back, ribs and lower back can become stressed on the side of the body opposite of where the backpack is placed. Carrying the pack on one shoulder may also cause upper back pain and a strain in the shoulders and neck.
Heavy backpacks can also increase the risk of falling. Research by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation found that students carrying backpacks weighing 25 percent of their body weight had balance problems and were unable to perform normal activities such as climbing stairs and opening doors. Conversely, students who wore backpacks weighing 15 percent of their body weight maintained balance moderately. The most effective weight carried in the packs, however, was five percent of body weight.

With their still developing spines, constant wearing of backpacks can have harmful effects on children’s growing physiques. Like most parts of the body, a child’s nervous system is still growing at a rapid rate and constant physical pressure such as carrying backpacks from class to class can impede the development of the spinal column, the spinal cord, the associated nerves, and even the brain.

Since the nervous system functions as the body’s command center, chiropractic adjustment ensures that it is working at optimal condition so that proper communication is maintained between the body’s systems. A skilled chiropractor will also recognize that youngsters require gentler manipulation than adults and be mindful of this difference during treatment.

With a growing number of parents reporting positive results from taking their children for chiropractic care, seeking the help of an established Newburgh wellness treatment center such as the Advanced Alternative Medicine Center can benefit kids navigating the intricate structures of schools in New York City.

Besides helping manage the nervous system, chiropractors and practitioners of alternative medicine in Newburgh and other localities can also offer counseling for a holistic approach to health through proper nutrition, consistent exercise, and managing stress factors that children encounter daily.

With health being a valuable foundation of success, making sure that children are sufficiently prepared to juggle the various demands of growing up in one of the busiest cities in the world is definitely a number one priority all year round.

The CDC: A Truly Corrupt and Dangerous Organization

The CDC: A Truly Corrupt and Dangerous Organization
September 10 2014

vaccines-are-safe

Over the years, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has repeatedly deceived and lied to the public, yet they continue to state that their mission is to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S.

They boldly announce on their website that the “CDC increases the health security of our nation. As the nation’s health protection agency, CDC saves lives and protects people from health threats. To accomplish our mission, CDC conducts critical science and provides health information that protects our nation against expensive and dangerous health threats, and responds when these arise,” and yet there is more and more evidence to suggest that their so called ‘scientific evidence’ has been skewed and deliberately tampered with to gain the desired results.

During the course of this article, I am going to give five recent examples of CDC fraud or deception. Each one of my examples will demonstrate when the CDC has deliberately altered or withheld scientific evidence in a bid to misinform the public.

Newburgh Chiropractic Center Can Provide Help for Diabetes Sufferers

According to a recently released report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States is facing an increase in diabetes cases; it is estimated that more than 29 million Americans suffer from the disorder, which is an increase of 3 million from 2010 data. Additionally, in 2012 alone, it has been estimated that over $245 billion in medical costs as well as in lost work and wages can be traced back to the disease.

Being diagnosed with diabetes is not the end of the world, though, since the disorder is fully manageable with the appropriate diet and lifestyle adjustments. However, this isn’t easy for many. To illustrate, a recent Fox News article noted how many diabetes sufferers often ignore salt warnings. The article also stated the recommended sodium intake of adults:

On average, people with type 1 diabetes had lower sodium intake than those with type 2, and men had higher intake - a median of 2,907 milligrams a day - compared to women, with a median of 1,962 milligrams a day.
Healthy people should limit their total sodium intake to 2,300 milligrams a day, or about the amount in a tablespoon of salt, according to the U.S. National Institutes of Health. For adults with high blood pressure, the recommendation is no more than 1500 milligrams a day.

Such information can help diabetes sufferers make the right food choices. Consulting with knowledgeable sources like Newburgh, NY chiropractor Dr. Richard Huntoon can also help in creating effective treatment plans for the disease.

If you have diabetes, the first thing you need to remember is that you should be eating high-fiber, slow-release carbs. Carbohydrates in your body have a greater effect on your blood sugar levels than fats and protein. Slow-release carbs like steel-cut oats or brown rice are slowly digestible, thus helping you maintain your blood sugar levels for a longer time.

Next, you’ll have to be careful with your consumption of sweets. You don’t have to completely cut these off from your diet; just limit your intake so that they won’t elevate your blood sugar. You’ll also have to eat the right fats; unsaturated fat, such as those coming from olive oil, nuts, and avocados, are better for your condition in the long run.

Additionally, you will have to deal with the effects of diabetes. Diabetics are more prone to heart diseases and hypertension. A visit to an accessible Newburgh chiropractic clinic can provide alternative options for treatment like acupuncture and homeopathy which can help deal with these complications. With their assistance and knowledge of effective treatments, chiropractic professionals can ensure that you can still live a fulfilling life even with diabetes.

Healthy Weight Loss & Dieting Tips

Healthy Weight Loss & Dieting Tips

How to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

In our eat-and-run, massive-portion-sized culture, maintaining a healthy weight can be tough—and losing weight, even tougher. If you’ve tried and failed to lose weight before, you may believe that diets don’t work for you. You’re probably right: traditional diets don’t work—at least not in the long term. However, there are plenty of small but powerful ways to avoid common dieting pitfalls, achieve lasting weight loss success, and develop a healthier relationship with food.

The key to successful, healthy weight loss

Your weight is a balancing act, but the equation is simple: If you eat more calories than you burn then you gain weight. If you eat fewer calories than you burn, you lose weight.

Since 3,500 calories equals about 1 pound of fat, if you cut 500 calories from your typical diet each day, you'll lose approximately 1 pound a week (500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories). Simple, right? So why is weight loss so hard?

All too often, we make weight loss much more difficult than it needs to be with extreme diets that leave us cranky and starving, unhealthy lifestyle choices that undermine our dieting efforts, and emotional eating habits that stop us before we get started. But there’s a better way! You can lose weight without feeling miserable. By making smart choices every day, you can develop new eating habits and preferences that will leave you feeling satisfied—as well as winning the battle of the bulge.

Not all body fat is the same

Where you carry your fat matters. The health risks are greater if you tend to carry your weight around

Healthy Adrenals Can Be A Girls Best Friend

Healthy Adrenals Can Be A Girls Best Friend:

Women, Menopause and Weight Management

In a culture where multitasking is key and life seems to run on fast forward, a woman’s adrenal system can get quite a workout.  When you add menopause to the mix, the adrenal glands can go on high alert.  Keeping the adrenal glands healthy plays a very important role for women in menopause.  This is especially true for those feeling worn down from dealing with the effects of hormonal fluctuations and battling weight gain.

Stress and Cortisol

You may be aware of the hormonal fluctuations that occur in menopause but don’t see the connection between adrenal health and menopause.  When stressed, either physically or emotionally, the adrenals will release adrenaline and Cortisol to moderate stress.  When a woman in menopause also has chronic stress, Cortisol production can be in excess, and she may experience adrenal fatigue.  This can result in cravings for sweet or salty foods, weight gain, or stubborn pounds that won’t go away, even with diet and exercise.  Without the support of a healthy adrenal system, menopausal symptoms can be more pronounced and make life miserable.

Caffeine-Fueled Lives Don’t Promote Energy

Women facing the combination of menopause and hectic lives often feel tired.  Many think they need caffeine in their morning coffee, energy drinks at lunch, and mid-afternoon lattes just to keep going.  These stimulants make the adrenal glands...

FDA Warns of Fracture Risk From Acid Reflux Drugs

FDA Warns of Fracture Risk From Acid Reflux Drugs
PPI Antacids Linked to Hip, Wrist, and Spine Fracture
By Daniel J. DeNoon WebMD Health News  Reviewed by Laura J. Martin, MD
May 25, 2010 -- Popular PPI antacids -- Aciphex, Dexilant, Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix, Vimovo, and Zegerid -- raise the risk of bone fracture, especially when used for a year or more or at high doses, the FDA warns.
The warning comes after U.S. and Canadian researchers linked the use of PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) to fracture risk in middle-aged adults.  Another U.S. study suggests that the drugs may also increase risk of infection with C. difficile, a bacterium that can cause severe diarrhea.
"There is a possible increased risk of fractures of the hip, wrist, and spine if you take certain drugs for heartburn, acid reflux, or ulcers," the FDA today warned consumers.
The action follows FDA review of six studies that link PPIs to fractures, although the studies do not definitively prove that PPIs are the cause of the fractures seen in the studies.
Most of the increased fracture risk is seen in people over age 50.
The federal agency will now require the warning to be added to the package labels of both the prescription and nonprescription versions of the drugs.
