Stress Eating Isn’t Just More Calories—It Changes Your Metabolism, Too

Stress Eating Isn’t Just More Calories—It Changes Your Metabolism, Too
It’s no secret that stress affects what you eat and how much you weigh. When people are stressed, they tend to reach for high-fat junk food, so picking up a McDonald’s combo, pizza pie, or tub of ice cream is no isolated incident.
When people are stressed and feeling down they crave these kinds of food. The craving is three-fold: you want a comforting taste, a little treat and freedom from your current situation, and you want to feel good (meaning less stress). But the connection between what you crave and what you eat isn’t without basis—that is you don’t eat junk food just because it tastes good. These foods also generate chemical and hormonal effects: the sugar releases serotonin, a feel-good chemical that boosts your mood, while the carbs release hormones to battle cortisol, the stress hormone.
But overall, eating is not a good way to combat stress as it can have negative long-term effects on your weight and health.
A group of researchers from Ohio State University recently took a look at exactly how stress impacts digestion and they came across some very interesting results.  To read more, click here

Do You Know Why You Go Out Of Adjustment?

Do You Know Why You Go Out Of Adjustment?

As a Newburgh Chiropractor and a holistic chiropractor, many times a Practice Member will ask, Why do I need to come back for adjustments and for how long will that be the case?  That brings us to the question of our article: Do You Know Why You Go Out Of Adjustment?

The answer is very simple.  All of us go out of adjustment due to STRESS!
a) Mental/Emotional Stress due to our relationships and the obligations of our life due to our life-style and the people we associate with that create our stress.
b) Stress due to Toxins from our environment consisting of the foods we eat, the water we drink and the air that we breathe.   Stress also comes from the effects our body experiences from eating all of those Completely Refined And Processed (CRAP) foods and the gradual weakness that results from consuming poor quality ingredients;  Ingredients that do not allow the body to repair and rebuild itself properly
c) And finally, we feel the effects of stress from traumas and injuries we have sustained over the years.  All of this stress causes our body to go out of alignment. Do you have any of that?

When Does It All Begin?

During the birthing process, whether Natural or via C-Section, each offers a stress that occurs on the neck of a new born that often results in misalignment of the upper spine.  Left without care, this often leads to ear infections, digestive issues, coughs, colds and other childhood conditions.  And since most doctors and parents do not appreciate the initial misalignment, and wouldn’t know to take them to a Chiropractor, they go uncorrected.  Because they are uncorrected, they will begin to create the basis for weaknesses within the body and is the basis for aging.

Next we need to appreciate that all children fall in excess of 1000 times during the first 5 years of their lives.  And most parents do not properly address the effects of those 1000 plus traumas.  Parents feel that if nothing was broken and the child stops crying, there is no real harm that results from those 1000 plus traumas.  Unfortunately, if left uncorrected, the accumulated effects will begin to manifest in weaknesses within the body and is the basis for aging.

As the body gets older, there are other traumas due to sports, slips and falls, motor vehicle accidents and others bumps and bruises that occur throughout teenage years that may not be fully addressed when they occur.  Again, if left uncorrected, they will begin to manifest in weaknesses within the body and is the basis for aging.

When one becomes part of the work-force, traumas to the body result from too many hours sitting behind a desk, lack of exercise, continued poor diet and stress of life that leads to poor quality sleep.  These again, if left uncorrected, will begin to manifest in weaknesses within the body and is the basis for aging.

Relationship stress, finances, family and other personal stress are traumatic to the nervous system causing muscles to tighten and result in misalignments that affect our clarity of thought, our energy and our ability to recover from stress.  Compounded by poor diet and exposure to the 86,000 different toxins we experience on a weekly basis and you begin to appreciate the stress we endure.  If left uncorrected, all of this will manifest in weaknesses within the body and is the basis for aging.

Why Do I Need More Adjustments?

The only true solution to all of this Stress is to remove the misalignment in the spine and restore proper communication within the nervous system and allow the body to have a better chance at dealing with the effects of our stress.  A Chiropractic Adjustment is the only form of treatment that deals with the cause of those effects.  That is why you need adjustments.  Your stress levels will determine how often you will require adjustments.  Your quality of food will determine how often you will require adjustments.  Your quality of sleep will determine how often you will require adjustments.  The amount of water and its purity will determine how often you will require adjustments.  Your life-style and the stress you experience will determine how often you will require adjustments.

When you can eliminate stress and the effects of stress, you can stop coming for adjustments.  When your health is no longer important to you, you can stop coming for adjustments.  When you finally die and spirit has left your body, you can stop coming for adjustments.  As long as you are breathing and choose to participate in life, to do it as fully as possible, you will need adjustments.

Yours to Consider

Health concerns are a major source of lost happiness and lost joy in all of our lives. Finding a solution that is agreeable and enables you to get back to your life is important. Please appreciate that you always have the more invasive surgery and prescription medication available to you as a last resort. What many Traditional Medical Doctors may not share is, many times, once you begin that journey into medication and/or surgery, it alters your original body from the one that you were born with. Unfortunately, at that time, more conservative and natural treatments may no longer be viable. I encourage you to consider that before making any decisions about treatment for your health. As always I am here to help.

Your Choice:
  • Continue doing the same thing and nothing changes or it may get worse
OR

  • Try something different and get a different result that makes you happier and healthier.

The Choice is Yours
